Proton therapy is the newest breakthrough technology for cancer treatment; however, cost, and build time make this technology inaccessible.


Pronova Proton Therapy

My Role: Design Lead

  1. Prototyped new manufacturing process, leading multidisciplinary design sprint.
  2. Researched and discovered pneumatic technology we used for process innovation.
  3. Prototyped customer engagement process, created all mock up drawings.


Designed + prototyped a manufacturing/delivery process with 10x efficiency. Created a start to finish customer experience strategy.


Current Mindset:

Proton therapy gantries are massive, weighing 30-40 tons. The current method for manufacturing such large devices is to build them one at a time in a fixed location

Our Process:

We led a multidisciplinary team of engineers, physicists, and logisticians to prototype new manufacturing configurations, technologies, and processes. We began by asking the question, "what if we didn't limit our design by the size of the device?"


The Breakthrough:

Our design utilized pneumatic technology to "flow" manufacture gantries rather than traditional cell builds...


...This sped up the manufacturing process 10x.

The Customer Experience

We then prototyped an 8 stage customer delivery experience. This process gives hospitals hands-on experience with their treatment center before it is built, rather than buying blind

Lastly, our design included a 5 year training program. This gives the buyer time to get up to speed on managing a brand new technology.
